Botox: myths, dosages and how long results last

The frozen mask, tolerance, toxin building up in the body - Botox is surrounded by fears. We look at what is actually true, how units are calculated and why the result depends on the doctor, not on the discount.

Botulinum toxin temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that fold the skin into creases. The lines between the brows, on the forehead and the crow's feet smooth out because the muscle stops creating them. Everything else is detail - and that is where the myths live.

Myth 1. "Your face will become a mask"

The mask effect is not a property of the product but the result of overdosing and incorrect injection points. With a careful calculation of units your expressions are preserved: you smile and frown naturally, simply without the deep set-in lines. The doctor's job is to relax the right muscles without touching the others.

Myth 2. "It becomes addictive"

There is no tolerance in the pharmacological sense. Over time, with regular treatments the muscle weakens and the intervals often grow longer while the doses go down. Individual resistance does occur occasionally, but it is the exception.

Myth 3. "The toxin accumulates in the body"

Cosmetic doses are minuscule amounts that are fully eliminated. The product acts locally at the injection site and is gradually inactivated. No accumulation takes place.

How dosages are calculated

The dose is measured in units and depends on the area and the strength of the muscles: men's muscles are stronger and require more units, and the glabella is "hungrier" than the forehead. That is why the correct approach is a calculation tailored to your specific expressions, rather than a "fixed price per area, sight unseen".

In botulinum toxin therapy the doctor matters most - not the price per unit. At SOLAR the injections are performed by a general practitioner (GP) with more than 15 years of experience: first an assessment of your expressions, then an individual plan and a precise dosage. The doctor takes into account how skin behaves after injections specifically in the Dubai climate - heat, intense sun, high humidity - and builds the aftercare recommendations around it.

More about Botulinum toxin therapy (Botox)

Who it suits and when to start

The ideal time is when the expression lines are already visible at rest or beginning to "stick". Small preventive doses are also used earlier. Contraindications (pregnancy, a number of neurological conditions) are checked by the doctor at the appointment.

What enhances the result

Botox removes dynamic lines caused by movement. For skin quality and density it is often combined with RF microneedling, and for the jawline with SMAS lifting. These are different goals that work well together.
