What "TDA" stands for
TDA is Transdermal Application, a method developed by the German company Meddrop BioMedical Technologies. The device draws in ambient air, filters it into medical-grade oxygen (about 98 percent concentration in the published lab work) and uses that oxygen to break the serum into ultra-fine droplets. According to the manufacturer, these droplets leave the applicator at roughly 265 metres per second, faster than the speed of sound, and are pressed into the skin without a single puncture.
The second component is the carrier. Every Dermadrop cartridge is built on the LP3 complex, a lipid-based matrix that, per the manufacturer, temporarily loosens the lamellar structure of the epidermis by about 65 percent so the actives can slip through. The manufacturer states that active substances diffuse to a depth of up to 3.5 mm, which corresponds to the dermis on the face. Independent research has not yet measured that depth on living human skin, so we treat 3.5 mm as the producer's figure rather than a settled fact.
What has been measured: an in vitro study on porcine skin (Franz diffusion cells, published 2022) found that Dermadrop TDA increased permeation of test substances 2 to 7 times compared with simply applying the same volume to the surface, with no histological damage to the skin. The effect was strongest for small molecules and weaker as molecular weight rose. That single detail explains most of what the method can and cannot do.
How a session feels
A Dermadrop protocol at SOLAR takes 30 to 40 minutes:
- cleansing and, if the skin allows, a light enzymatic or acid pre-peel to remove dead cells;
- the TDA stage: the applicator glides 1.5 to 2 cm above the skin, delivering micro-pulses of serum; clients describe it as a cool, slightly pressurised breeze;
- a soothing mask and SPF.
There is no anaesthetic cream, no bleeding, no papules. Makeup can go on the same day. This is the reason the treatment is often booked the morning of an event, a wedding shoot or a flight: the immediate effect is a plumped, evenly hydrated surface with reduced redness.
Which serums are used
Cartridges are chosen for the task rather than applied as a fixed cocktail:
- hyaluronic acid of low and medium molecular weight for dehydration, the most common complaint in a city where air conditioning runs eleven months a year;
- peptide protocols (the manufacturer's BIOBTX line) that aim to soften expression lines, positioned as a support for, not a replacement of, botulinum toxin;
- vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals for dullness, post-summer pigmentation and stressed, reactive skin;
- scalp formulas that deliver actives to the hair follicles for shedding and a tight, dry scalp.
Needle-free versus injections: an honest comparison
| Dermadrop TDA | Injectable mesotherapy and biorevitalisation | |
|---|---|---|
| Skin barrier | Not punctured | Punctured 50 to 100 times per session |
| Molecules delivered | Small and medium; large cross-linked HA does not pass | Any, including cross-linked hyaluronic acid |
| Depth | Up to 3.5 mm per manufacturer, depends on molecule size | Set by the doctor, precise |
| Downtime | None | Papules 1 to 2 days, bruising in about a third of clients in trials |
| Durability | Hydration effect builds over a course, maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks | 3 sessions monthly, measurable elasticity gain for about 3 months |
| Pain | None | Mild to moderate, anaesthetic cream needed |
A 2013 randomised trial of injectable non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid recorded a 3 to 4 percent increase in dermal thickness and a roughly 10 percent improvement in elasticity after three sessions, but also haematomas in 36 percent of treated cheeks. Needle-free delivery trades that measurable structural gain for zero recovery. The independent view from dermatology is consistent: needle-free methods genuinely improve hydration, barrier function and tone, but they are physically unable to rebuild dermal density the way a syringe can. If your goal is a lasting change in skin quality after 40, injectable biorevitalisation from the injectable cosmetology team remains the stronger tool.
Who Dermadrop suits best
- Anyone who avoids needles. Fear of injections is the single most common reason people skip mesotherapy altogether.
- Pre-event skin. A wedding, a conference, a photo session: the glow is visible the same day, and there is nothing to hide.
- Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin that reacts to punctures with prolonged redness. The cooling oxygen stream is itself calming.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. With serum selection agreed with the doctor, several Dubai clinics list Dermadrop as a treatment that can be done in this period, when injectables and most peels are off the table.
- Scalp care. Hair loss protocols with peptides and vitamins, without the discomfort of scalp injections.
- Between injectable courses, as maintenance in the months when the skin is not being punctured.
Dermadrop and HydraFacial: rivals or partners
The two are often confused because both are "needle-free facials". HydraFacial works on the surface: vortex suction cleans pores and infuses serums into the epidermis. Dermadrop starts where HydraFacial stops and moves actives into the dermis. In practice they combine well: a deep cleanse first, then transdermal delivery onto skin that is free of sebum and dead cells. We compared HydraFacial with a classic cleansing facial in a separate article; the HydraFacial page describes the protocol itself.
Limitations to know before booking
- Dermadrop does not restore volume, does not lift and does not replace fillers or SMAS ultrasound.
- It cannot carry large, cross-linked hyaluronic acid molecules; the effect on deep wrinkles is modest.
- Results are cumulative: the manufacturer recommends 1 to 2 sessions a week for the first weeks, then one session every 4 to 6 weeks.
- Avoid on active infections, open wounds, fresh sunburn (relevant after any Dubai beach weekend), within 2 to 4 weeks of an ablative laser or a medium peel, and with known allergy to a serum ingredient.
- Evidence base: the published human study (19 participants, 2026) was funded by the manufacturer and ran for four weeks. Promising, not conclusive.
Cost depends on the zone and the number of sessions and is confirmed at the consultation.
FAQ
Does needle-free mesotherapy really reach the dermis?
The manufacturer states a diffusion depth of up to 3.5 mm. An independent in vitro study confirmed 2 to 7 times higher permeation than surface application, mainly for small molecules. Depth on living human skin has not been independently measured, so we present the figure as the producer's claim.
How many sessions do I need?
For hydration and glow, one session gives a visible result the same day. For texture, fine lines and pigmentation, a course of 4 to 6 sessions 1 to 2 weeks apart, then maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks.
Can it be done in summer in Dubai?
Yes, and summer is when it is most useful: the skin loses water under air conditioning and sun. The only rule is no fresh sunburn on the day, and SPF afterwards as always.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
Nothing is injected and the serums are chosen without retinoids or aggressive acids. Confirm the ingredients with your doctor; SOLAR adjusts the cartridge accordingly.
Will it replace my biorevitalisation injections?
Not fully. It is a strong option for people who cannot or do not want to be injected, and a good maintenance between injectable courses. For structural change in the dermis, injections remain more effective.
The doctor at SOLAR Beauty & Aesthetics Clinic in Sobha Hartland Waves will examine your skin, tell you honestly whether Dermadrop TDA or an injectable course fits your goal better, and select the serum for your task. Book a consultation online or by phone, and we will plan the first session around your calendar.
