Before a nurse starts in Dubai: 6 things the clinic must have ready

A signed offer is not the finish line. Between the offer and the first patient there is a licence, a visa, a medical test and a package to settle, and most of it is the employer's job. Here is the checklist we walk clinic owners through.

Checklist of 6 things a clinic prepares before a nurse starts in Dubai, explained by Stan, Head of Hiring Department, TLNT.ae

1. Know which licence route the nurse needs

A nurse needs a DHA licence to work in Dubai. Someone already licensed in Dubai can transfer quickly. A candidate from abroad goes through DataFlow verification, the DHA nursing exam (Prometric), the licence and then linking to your facility.

Ask for the route before the interview, not after the offer. The steps are in our DHA licence for nurses guide.

2. Plan for the DataFlow delay

Primary source verification is the step where most licence timelines slip, because DataFlow contacts every university and employer in the file. DataFlow sets no fixed deadline.

Read the DataFlow guide and ask the nurse to warn previous employers early.

3. Be ready to act as sponsor

The employer is the sponsor and arranges the work permit and residence visa. By law these costs cannot be deducted from the nurse's pay. Typical stages for a candidate from abroad:

4. Budget the costs that sit on top of salary

Besides salary, the employer covers the work permit and residence visa, the medical test, Emirates ID and mandatory health insurance. Exact amounts depend on company category, emirate and plan, so ask for a budget for your case. See the work visa guide and the cost of hiring guide.

5. Agree the package in total, not just basic pay

6. Write the day-one plan

Decide who the nurse reports to, which procedures she or he runs alone, how records are kept and what infection-control routine applies. A short practical check on your own model before the offer shows how the nurse prepares patients and keeps records. The employer decides; we help find and assess. Role profile: nurse hiring page.
