Golden visa for doctors in the UAE

Routes as published

According to the UAE government portal (u.ae), the golden visa is issued in several categories. The ones that most often matter for doctors:

• Exceptional talents and specialised talents: doctors are explicitly listed; this route gives a 10-year visa, and requirements differ by subcategory (recommendations, experience, accredited degrees)
• Skilled professionals: a salary-based route with conditions on education, profession and salary, published by ICP
• Investors: for example through property or capital, with thresholds published on the official portals (the investor category starts from AED 2 million)
• Some health regulators have nominated or recommended eligible healthcare professionals: ask DHA, DOH or MOHAP whether a route applies to you

What doctors usually prepare

Exact lists depend on the route and are set by ICP or GDRFA. Commonly relevant:

• Valid UAE licence to practise (DHA, DOH or MOHAP)
• Degree certificates, attested or equivalency-recognised where required
• Proof of experience and current employment contract or salary certificate
• Passport, current residence details and any recommendation letters the route asks for

What it changes and what it does not

• Benefits named on u.ae: sponsoring family members and staying outside the UAE longer than the usual six months without losing residence
• It does not replace the DHA licence: a doctor still needs an active licence linked to the facility to practise
• The clinic still hires the doctor under an employment contract; work permit steps can differ from a standard employment visa, so check the current MOHRE procedure
• For recruitment, a doctor on a golden visa can be easier to hire because residence does not depend on the new employer
