In-house legal counsel for SMEs, trading and holding groups, real estate businesses, clinic and salon groups and family businesses in Dubai. When contracts pile up and outside lawyers are paid by the hour for routine work, an in-house counsel pays for themselves: they draft and review supplier, client, distribution and lease agreements, keep the company documents of mainland and free zone entities in order, support HR on employment documents, manage disputes and decide when an outside firm is really needed. We assess candidates on a contract review exercise, not on titles.
Hire a legal counselLooking for a job?A legal counsel who reads a contract from the business side, explains the three real risks in plain words and gets the deal signed on acceptable terms.
A strong law-firm CV does not prove that someone can work for a business owner who wants an answer today. The checks show drafting, business judgment and how the candidate talks to non-lawyers.
How it differs from neighbouring roles. A PRO officer handles government transactions and paperwork for visas and licences; a legal counsel handles contracts, risk and disputes. A compliance officer runs policies, checks and reporting on rules; legal counsel advises on rights and obligations in deals and disputes. An outside law firm is still needed for court work and specialist questions; in-house counsel decides when and manages the cost. Typical hiring mistake: hiring a litigator for a contract-heavy business, or a junior adviser who cannot say no to the owner when a clause is dangerous.

If the company signs contracts every week, renews leases, has several entities and pays outside lawyers for routine reviews every month, an in-house counsel is usually better value and faster. If legal work comes a few times a year, a law firm on call is enough. Even with in-house counsel, court cases and specialist questions go to outside lawyers; the counsel chooses them and controls the budget.
