Why assistants leave and what keeps a good one in Dubai

Employers usually hear the polite reason: a better offer, family circumstances, a move. The real reason is almost always older than the offer. The assistant has been doing a bigger job than the one that was agreed, answering messages at midnight, guessing what matters today and hearing about mistakes but never about what went well. By the time the resignation arrives, the decision was made months earlier. This guide names the reasons honestly and shows what an employer can change: rules, a regular review, a visible path and pay steps that follow the market, not the mood.

The real reasons, named plainly

None of these is about a bad person. They are about how the role was run. Most employers recognise at least two of them.

The early signs you can still act on

Resignations are rarely sudden. These signals usually appear months before, and each one still has an answer.

Rules and boundaries that keep a good assistant

Rules protect both sides. The assistant knows what is expected; you stop paying for guesses.

Review, growth and pay steps

A good assistant does not expect a promotion every year. They expect to be seen, to learn something and to be paid in line with the market as their value grows.

When letting go is the right answer

Keeping someone is not always right. The question is whether the problems are about how the role is run or about the fit.

How we help

TLNT is a hiring consultancy. If you are losing assistants, we help you look at the role before the next search: scope, hours, decision rights and a salary range as a market estimate. Then we search for candidates and assess them on a model of your real tasks, and we tell candidates honestly what the job is, so the person who joins knows the hours and the scope from day one. You interview, make the hiring decision and agree the terms; the person is employed directly by your company, the employer sponsors the visa and we give you a step-by-step checklist.

Our fee is fixed for each role and agreed before the search starts. A 10% prepayment of the fee starts the search, the rest is due once the person has started work. If it does not work out, we find a replacement free of charge; the period is set in the contract. Consulting and CRM projects are priced after a free review.

FAQ

Why do executive and personal assistants quit in Dubai?

The most common reasons are in the employer's hands: the scope grew without a change in pay, no boundaries on evening and weekend messages, no growth or training, disrespect in daily communication, and unclear priorities that make the assistant guess and then take the blame. A better offer is usually the last step, not the cause.

How much should I raise my assistant's salary?

Compare the current scope with the market, not with last year's figure. Market estimate in AED per month: personal assistant about 5,000 - 10,000, senior 12,000 and above; executive assistant about 12,000 - 20,000, 20,000 - 30,000 for a C-level or family office role; hybrid multi-assistant about 10,000 - 18,000. If the role has grown into a different one, pay for the role the person actually does. See our assistant salary guide for the full table.
