School of assistants: types and the career ladder who an assistant is in Dubai today and where the profession leads

An assistant in Dubai is not one job but a family of jobs. One person books flights and answers WhatsApp for a founder, another runs the household of a family with staff, a third sits next to a C-level executive and prepares board papers, a fourth works remotely from another country. The titles overlap, the pay differs two or three times, and both candidates and employers mix them up. This is the opening article of our School of assistants series: the types of assistant that exist in Dubai, what each one does in a normal week, how the career ladder is built and what each step pays as a market estimate. Written for the person who is or wants to be an assistant, and useful for the employer who wants to understand whom they are actually hiring.

What an assistant does in Dubai today

Dubai concentrates owners, executives and families who move fast and manage many things at once: companies, licences, travel, children, property, staff. The assistant is the person who turns that stream into a calendar, a task list and finished actions. The common core of every type is the same.

The types of assistant and what they do

The same core, different centre of gravity. The table shows the usual focus and the market estimate in AED per month, total package, basic salary plus allowances. The employer also pays the visa, health insurance and gratuity provision on top.

How to tell the types apart in practice

Job titles in Dubai are loose: a vacancy called personal assistant may be an executive assistant role, and an administrative assistant may be asked to run a founder's private life. Read the tasks, not the title.

The career ladder: step by step

Most careers in this profession move through similar steps, though people enter at different points and some skip steps when they bring a strong specialism such as finance, legal or medical administration.

What moves a person up the ladder

The ladder is not about years. Two things lift people: scope and trust. Scope grows when the person takes a task from the principal and returns a finished result; trust grows when nothing leaks and nothing is dropped.

How we help

TLNT is a hiring consultancy. For employers we help define which type of assistant the real workload needs, set the salary range as a market estimate, search for candidates and assess them on tasks from the real job; you make the hiring decision and agree the terms with the candidate yourself, the person is employed directly by your company, the employer sponsors the visa and we give you a step-by-step checklist.

For candidates: send your CV through our candidates page or build one in the free CV builder; we let you know when an employer has a matching vacancy. Candidates never pay us.

Our fee is fixed for each role and agreed before the search starts. A 10% prepayment of the fee starts the search, the rest is due once the person has started work. If it does not work out, we find a replacement free of charge; the period is set in the contract. Consulting and CRM projects are priced after a free review.
