How to negotiate an assistant salary in Dubai the market frame, package versus basic, how to present achievements, when to ask for a raise and what to say

Assistants are good at negotiating for other people and often bad at negotiating for themselves. The reasons are familiar: the job is about serving, the results are invisible, and nobody tells you what the market pays. This article from our School of assistants series fixes the three gaps. It gives the market frame by type of role as a market estimate, explains how a Dubai package is built and what the difference between basic and total means for you, shows how to turn an invisible job into a list of achievements, tells you when a raise request lands and when it does not, and gives scripts for the offer, the raise and the counter-offer. It also says plainly what employers can add to a package and what they cannot, so you ask for the right things.

The market frame: what assistants are paid in Dubai

Negotiation starts with knowing the range. The figures below are market estimates in AED per month, total package (basic salary plus allowances); the employer also pays the visa, health insurance and gratuity provision on top. Where you sit inside a range depends on scope, languages, years with a named principal and the size of the employer. Our full salary guide for assistants has the detail.

Package versus basic: how a Dubai offer is built

In Dubai the number in the vacancy is usually the total package, and the contract splits it into basic salary and allowances. The split matters to you, so ask about it before you accept.

How to present achievements in an invisible job

An assistant's results are things that did not go wrong. To negotiate you must make them visible, with numbers where you can and with concrete stories where you cannot. Start the record today, whatever stage you are at.

When to ask for a raise, and when not to

Timing decides half the result. The same request lands or fails depending on the week.

Scripts for the conversation

Short, calm, factual, with a number and a reason. Rehearse once out loud; assistants who draft these for their principals every day can do it for themselves.

Mistakes that cost assistants money

The same errors appear in almost every conversation about pay that goes badly.

How we help

TLNT is a hiring consultancy. For employers we set the salary range for an assistant role as a market estimate before the search, so the offer meets the market and the person stays; we search for candidates, assess them on real tasks and introduce the ones who meet the agreed criteria. You make the hiring decision and agree the terms with the candidate yourself; we advise on the market package and do not negotiate on your behalf. The person is employed directly by your company, the employer sponsors the visa and we give you a step-by-step checklist.

For candidates: send your CV through our candidates page or build one in the free CV builder; we let you know when an employer has a matching vacancy. Candidates never pay us.

Our fee is fixed for each role and agreed before the search starts. A 10% prepayment of the fee starts the search, the rest is due once the person has started work. If it does not work out, we find a replacement free of charge; the period is set in the contract. Consulting and CRM projects are priced after a free review.

FAQ

How much salary should I ask for as an executive assistant in Dubai?

Use the market estimate as the frame: executive assistant 12,000 - 20,000 AED per month total package, 20,000 - 30,000 with a C-level executive or a private family office; personal assistant 5,000 - 10,000, senior 12,000 and above; administrative assistant 5,000 - 8,000, senior 8,000 - 11,000. Place yourself inside the range by scope, languages and references, name one number rather than a range, and ask for the split between basic salary and allowances in the offer letter.

How do I ask my boss for a raise as a personal assistant?

Collect six months of evidence first: how your scope grew, what you prevented or saved, a few quotes from people you worked with. Ask for a 20-minute meeting with a clear subject at a calm moment, not during a crisis or after a mistake. Present scope, results and the market estimate, name the figure you want and the date, and follow up with a two-line email. If the answer is not now, agree the criteria and the date for the next conversation in writing.
